Anthony Pettis Competing for Wheaties Box Champion

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will compete in a promotional contest to vie for a shot to be the featured athlete on the box of Wheaties Cereal, a spot that has become synonymous with the use of the best athletes in the world to promote their brand.

The contest asks voters to log a workout on MapMyFitness.com/wheatiesnext or their app and you will be able to vote for the athlete that you think belongs on the box.

Pettis is competing against four other athletes, all from sports outside of the mainstream. Here are there athlete profiles courtesy of Wheaties.com

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis is a mixed martial artist from Milwaukee, WI. Known for his gravity-defying kicks, he’s the current lightweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® and is regarded as one of the top fighters in the world. Anthony has teamed up with the Gadzuric Foundation and Exploit No More. Join Team Pettis to empower at-risk youth and their families.

Hailing from Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Christen Press is a forward on the U.S. Women’s National Team. She holds the all-time scoring record at her alma mater and was the recipient of college soccer’s most prestigious award. Christen now plays professionally in Chicago. By supporting Team Press, you’ll also back Christen’s work with Grassroots Soccer to stop the spread of AIDS.

Blake Leeper has worn lower leg prosthetics since his childhood in Kingsport, TN. Now an elite adaptive sprinter, he’s represented his country at the highest level of international competition. When he’s not running, Blake studies applied physics and is a motivational speaker. Choose to join Team Leeper and you’ll also be cheering on Blake’s efforts with the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Ryan Dungey competes in the Supercross and Motocross Championships. By 21, this small town boy from Belle Plaine, MN, had won every title in Motocross. He now rides out of Tallahassee, FL. Pick Team Dungey to support Ryan and his efforts with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the hunt for medical breakthroughs.

Rob Pannell is a professional lacrosse player from Smithtown, NY. He is the all-time leading scorer in collegiate history. He currently plays professionally for the New York Lizards™ in Major League Lacrosse™. UFC.com has provided a list of steps to complete to be able to participate in the voting.

  • Visit MapMyFitness.com/wheatiesnext or download the MapMyFitness app
  • Select and join the Wheaties NEXT Challenge
  • Register for the Wheaties NEXT Challenge and select an athlete
  • Once registered, participants can begin logging workouts
  • Every workout logged will count as one vote for the selected athlete (up to two workouts of 30 minutes or more can be logged each day)
  • At the end of the competition, the athlete with the most votes via workouts logged will be the next athlete to appear on the Wheaties box

Pettis is currently coaching a team of women’s strawweights on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter. He will defend his UFC belt at the conclusion of the season against top contender Gilbert Melendez.
