Ronaldo Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi Set as UFC 176 Co-Main Event

UFC 176 has its co-main event in the form of a pivotal middleweight fight which is also a rematch of the 2008 DREAM grand prix finals between Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.

UFC officials confirmed the news after the Los Angeles Daily News reported the bout’s addition to the card.

Mousasi (35-4-2) won their first bout, delivering an up kick on Souza (20-3) that knocked him out.

Mousasi will return after a vintage performance that fans of the ‘Armenian Assassin’ craved, submitting Mark Munoz after a few minutes of complete control. The win ran his UFC record to 2-1. His lone loss came via decision in a fight against former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 36 in February.

Souza has won six straight since losing his Strikeforce middleweight belt to Luke Rockhold in 2011 with his last three victories coming in the UFC, of which he has two finishes.

UFC 176 is headlined by a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes in a rematch of the UFC 142 main event, in which Aldo knocked Mendes out to retain his belt. UFC 176 takes place on August 2nd, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
