3.5 Reasons To Watch UFC Fight Night 42

The UFC heads to MMA hotbed Albuquerque, New Mexico this Saturday for UFC Fight Night 42. The card will be headlined by a bout between former lightweight champ Benson Henderson against Rustam Khabilov.

The card is pretty stacked with some potentially greats fights. Also scheduled to fight are Rafael dos Anjos, Sergio Pettis, Erik Perez, Bryan Caraway and the return of former barista and convicted felon, Patrick Cummins. Here are 3.5 reasons why you should tune in to UFC Fight Night 42.

1. Henderson vs. Khabilov

Benson Henderson needs a convincing win against Khabilov if he wants to get a title shot. He really can’t afford any more “controversial decision” victories like his last fight against Josh Thomson.

Both fighters are good grapplers with Khabilov known for his suplexes. The former Sambo world champion should give Henderson a run for his money but I expect another decision victory for Smooth Henderson.

2. Diego Sanchez

Diego Sanchez always puts on a good fight. At UFC Fight Night 42 he will be fighting in front of his home crowd for the first time in over 10 years so expect some fireworks. He is facing British fighter Ross Pearson who could use a quality win on his resume. Sanchez is just 1-3 in his last four fights and has taken a tremendous amount of punishment in his MMA career. It will be interesting to see what happens to him if he loses this fight.

3.John Dodson vs. John Moraga

This could essentially be a title eliminator bout. Johnson and Moraga have both lost to current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. However, with the lightweight division being a relatively new weight class it is not farfetched to think that if one of these fighters wins in truly impressive fashion they could be rewarded with a title shot.

3.5 Yves Edwards

This could easily be Yves Edwards last fight, win or lose. The Thugjitsu Master has only tasted victory twice in his last seven bouts and it looks like his 17-year career is coming to an end. Edwards was a pioneer in the sport of MMA and it would be great if he could end it all with a victory. He will be facing a solid fighter in Piotr Halmann so a win is not guaranteed. Still, Edwards has had a great career and I am looking forward to seeing him in action one more time.
