4.5 Reasons To Watch UFC 172

UFC 172 is scheduled to take place Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland. It will be headlined by a light heavyweight title bout featuring champ Jon Jones against Glover Teixeira. While everyone is focused on the main event there are plenty of good matchups to watch.

Here are 4.5 reasons to take your hard earned money and buy UFC 172 (because you’re not going to try to find an illegal Internet stream, right?)

1. Jon Jones Upset?

Many people are speculating the Glover Teixeira is going to pull off the upset against Jones. The narrative going around is that this is the “toughest challenge” of Jones’ career. Teixeira has some heavy hands and can probably KO Jones if he gets a chance. But he might not get that chance. Jones has such a varied arsenal of weapons that he can keep Teixeira away and pick him apart.

2. Phil Davis

Dana White has publicly questioned Phil Davis’ heart and desire to be the best at 205. Mr. Wonderful is a force to be reckoned with and his fight against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson should be a good one. Davis is in the midst of a three-fight win streak with his last a controversial decision win over Lyoto Machida. This is Davis’ chance to show he belongs in the conversation when it comes to title shots in the 205 division.

3. The Return Of Rumble Johnson

It’s been over two years since Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has stepped into the octagon. His weight cutting issues have been legendary and Dana White has said that if he misses weight this time he will be gone from the UFC forever. He has finally moved up from 170 to a more realistic 205.

4. Remember Luke Rockhold?

Luke Rockhold is one of the most overlooked middleweights in the UFC. He has quality wins over Tim Kennedy, Jacare Souza and Costas Philippou but he still gets little respect. With a win over Tim Boetsch he may be in position to fight for the title.

4.5 Chris Beal

Cris Beal has a great story. He beat cancer to make it into TUF 18 where he subsequently lost to eventual show winner Chris Holdsworth. Beal will face Patrick Williams as both fighters make their UFC debut.

UFC 172 looks like it will be a good fight card and should continue the string of exciting events the UFC has produced lately.
