The back and forth between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino will seemingly never stop until the two finally face off in the octagon. So, it will never stop.
The latest salvo was thrown by Cris Cyborg when she sat down with MMAFighting.com and called Rousey a “paper champion.”
As you know Rousey recently made some disgusting comments about Justino, saying the she has taken so many steroids that she is no longer a woman, she’s an “it.” Many fight fans expected Rousey to get fined or even suspended for her remarks but UFC president Dana White had other ideas.
During a media scrum for the upcoming UFC 172 event White stated he saw nothing wrong with Rousey’s comments and even went on to make fun of Justino by saying she looked like Wanderlei Silva in a dress.
Cris Cyborg was not surprised by any of this. “I’m not surprised (Rousey wasn’t punished) because she’s UFC’s paper champion,” she said. “They obviously would never punish her, even because her opponents are handpicked.
“I always admired Dana White as a great businessman that always believed in MMA and helped our sport to grow around the world. And I’m sure that, with the power he has, he would never go against his paper champion.”
The UFC women’s division is incredibly thin and there really is no challenger to Rousey’s title. The only fight that makes any amount of sense is Rousey-Cyborg, but that will never happen. For whatever reason Dana White will not put Rousey in any jeopardy. This is supported by the fact that White & Co. are still trying to match up Rousey with Gina Carano, who hasn’t fought in nearly five years.
Rousey and White can make fun of Justino’s looks all they want but Cyborg is right, until Rousey fights her she is just a paper champion.
