Daniel Cormier vs. Dan Henderson Set For UFC 173

It is official, Dan Henderson will meet Daniel Cormier at UFC 173. UFC president Dana White has made the announcement on ESPN’s SportsCenter and also stated that it will be the co-main event.

According to White the winner of this weekend’s fight featuring Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira will face Alexander Gustaffson and the winner of Cormier-Henderson will face the winner of that fight. So either Daniel Cormier or Dan Henderson will get a title shot in the 205 division.

The last time we saw Cormier he was knocking out a former barista and convicted felon Patrick Cummins. Henderson is coming off a spectacular KO of Shogun Rua.

This fight is very intriguing for many reasons. DC will finally be facing a quality opponent in the light heavyweight division and this is the first fight that Henderson will have post-TRT ban.

Will Hendo stand a chance without TRT? Will the weight drop effect Cormier? I, for one, am completely stoked for this fight. I’ve been a DC fan from his Strikeforce days and Dan Henderson still has one of my favorite knockouts  of all time against Michael Bisping at UFC 100.

UFC 173 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Renen Barao and TJ Dillashaw and will also feature Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Ellenberger.

UFC 173 will take place on May 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
