Dana White has no intention of releasing Nate Diaz from his UFC contract. Last week Diaz tweeted out a request to be released from the UFC. At the time many believed it was a ploy to renegotiate his contract in the wake of Gilbert Melendez’s new contract.
UFC president Dana White said he has no intention of releasing Nate Diaz.
“He hasn’t called me,” White said following the weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 37 at O2 Arena in London. “Is that how we do these things? You tweet? The answer would be no. He just signed a new contract that he was happy with a month ago,” White said of Nate Diaz. “That’s definitely not controversial for the Diaz brothers – that’s called normal. I’ve got 500 guys under contract, and there’s always something. Every day when I wake up, there’s something.”
Nate Diaz, and his brother Nick, have been competing more in the social media arena than they have in the octagon. Nate has turned down a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nick has stated that he will not come out of retirement for anything less than a title shot.
Both brothers are bankable fighters and will certainly bring in viewers to any card in which they appear. However, they are not helping their cases any by acting this way. Dana is right in ignoring these stunts, He will continue to try to set up fights for both brothers and they will probably continue decline them.
As a fight fan I am looking forward to the next fight featuring any one of the Diaz brothers but it looks like I will be waiting for a long time.
