Stipe Miocic To Fight Junior Dos Santos At UFC 173

– It’s official, Stipe Miocic will face Junior dos Santos in the co-main event of UFC 173. UFC officials confirmed the fight for the show yesterday. This event will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida.

Stipe Miocic (11–1) and is the number eight heavyweight ranked fighter in the UFC. He is on a two fight win streak over Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga, both coming from Decision. He last fought in January of this year with a win over Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Thomson.

Former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (16–3) is coming off the beat down fight against current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Since winning the title back in 2011 he is 2-2 after it. He won a fight against Frank Mir, lost against Cain Velasquez then knocked out Mark Hunt then lost again against Cain Velasquez. He has not fought since October and change camps.

Another fight added to the card is Piotr Hallman will fight Yves Edwards in a lightweight fight at UFC 173 as well. UFC officials announced the fight yesterday as well. UFC 173 is shaping up to be a good one.

Broadcast plans have not yet been announced, but it will have its main card on PPV. The placement of Hallman vs. Edwards isn’t yet known, but most likely on the prelim side of the event.

UFC 173 will go down on May 24th in Las Vegas. The main card airs on PPV following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. You can check out the rest of the card here.
