The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads to Chicago this weekend for UFC On Fox 10 which will be headlined by a match up featuring former lightweight champion Benson Henderson going up against Josh Thomson.
The entire card looks pretty good and there could be some standout fights. Here are the three fights I am looking forward to at UFC On Fox 10.
Benson Henderson (19-3) vs. Josh Thomson (20-5, 1NC)
Thompson thought he had a title shot against current lightweight champ Anthony Pettis but an injury forced Pettis out of the match and Thomson is now facing former champ Henderson. In theory, the winner of this fight should be next in line for Pettis.
Both fighters have good standup games and like to throw lots of kicks. Henderson has an advantage in upper body strength and athleticism. Thomson should use his jab to open up opportunities for his superior striking and kickboxing.
Even though Henderson is a 3-1 favorite this fight should be a close one and be a candidate for Fight Of The Night. The fight will most likely go the distance with Henderson winning by decision.
Stipe Miocic (10-1) vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (16-7)
I’m sucker for the heavyweights and the division is pretty stacked right now. Stipe Miocic is so fast and has such athleticism he is a handful for any heavyweight to deal with. Gonzaga does have a four-inch reach advantage which could present a problem for Miocic.
Gonzaga does have a good ground game but getting Miocic to the mat is no easy task. Miocic is too strong and too fast. Look for him to end this fight in the later rounds.
Sergio Pettis (10-0) vs. Alex Caceres (9-5)
This fight is the main event for the prelims. Pettis has such an arsenal of striking skills and he usually provides fans with exciting fights. Caceres also has some good striking and should provide some solid competition. Most of this fight should take place standing as both fighters exchange blows. Look for Pettis to take the victory via decision.
UFC On Fox 10 will take place in Chicago on January 25. There will be one prelim fight on UFC Fight Pass with the remaining prelims airing on Fox Sports 1. The main card will air on Fox.
