The UFC heads back to Georgia tonight for UFC Fight Night 35. The card is not the strongest but it should provide fight fans with some solid action. The main event pits Luke Rockhold against Costas Philippou.
Here are my predictions for the main card of UFC Fight Night 35.
Rockhold is a pretty big favorite in this fight but don’t count out Philippou. Rockhold can use his reach advantage and superior kick boxing skills to keep Philippou out of range and neutralize Philoppou’s boxing skills. Both fighters will want to keep the fight standing up with the advantage going to Rockhold.
Prediction: Luke Rockhold
Lorenz Larkin (14-1, 1NC) vs. Brad Tavares (11-2)
Lorenz Larkin is the superior striker in this match. He is quicker and has more power than Tavares. If Tavares is to have a chance in this fight he needs to take the fight to the mat. Unfortunately, Larkin’s takedown defense has been improving over his last few fights.
T.J. Dillashaw (9-2) vs. Mike Easton (13-3)
Mike Easton has been improving rapidly. His takedown defense is top notch and he is a great striker. The problem is that he is more of a counter puncher and waits to react to his opponent. This can create an opening for Dillashaw dictate the pace of the fight.
Yoel Moreno (6-1) vs. Derek Brunson (11-2)
On paper this seems like a lopsided fight. Moreno is the more talented fighter but tends to take portions of rounds off. When he decides to fight he is nearly unstoppable. Brunson needs to hope he can catch Romero napping and take advantage.
John Moraga (13-2) vs. Dustin Ortiz (12-2)
John Moraga is simply a better fighter than Ortiz and this should be an easy night for Moraga. This has the possibility for Knockout Of The Night honors with Moraga getting his hand raised.
Cole Miller (20-8) vs. Sam Sicilia (12-3)
Sicilia is a very aggressive fighter and should be able to outstrike Miller. However, in his aggression, Sicilia leave himself open for counterstrikes and takedowns. This is where Cole Miller shines. He has great judo takedowns and solid jiu-jitsu. If Miller can weather the storm he should get the victory.
