Dustin Poirier is firing back against Diego Brandao. After Poirier KO’d Brandao at UFC 168 Diego came up with an interesting excuse as to why he lost. He claimed that a drunk driver crashed into him and that hampered his ability to train and make weight. He came in a whopping seven pounds overweight for the bout which set off Dustin Poirier at the weigh in.
Brandao also went on the say that Poirier was “scared” and was “lucky” to get the win.
That was all “The Diamond” could take. In a recent interview with FOX Sports, Poirier unloaded on the Brazilian.
“I’m done with this guy. He’s a win on my record. I’m over it. I’d love to give him a rematch. I’ll fight him 10 more times. It’d be like padding my record. It’s easy money. I could beat him all the time. I feel like I was more technically skilled everywhere the fight went. No problem. This is all talk. This is in the past for me. This is him trying to hold on to something and make excuses. The guy’s a tomato can. It’s nonsense. It’s just a coward thing to do, to make excuses. He could have showed up 100 percent, made weight and still gotten a beatdown. I was ready to fight and ready to win. I can’t let what he said take away from my performance.”
I have been a fan of Dustin Poirier since is appearance in the MMA documentary Fightville and it is good to see him stand up for himself and call out Brandao.
With his impressive performance at UFC 168 Dustin Poirier should be on the short list for a title shot against current featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
