According to all reports Anderson Silva is recovering well from a broken leg suffered against UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168. He is recovering so well that his management team is no going around saying that they want The Spider’s return fight to be against Georges St. Pierre.
In a recent interview, Anderson Silva’s managers, Jorge Guimaraes and Ed Soares, stated that a fight against GSP would be huge.
“Man, if we were able to pull something like that off, it would be a win-win for everybody, the fans, the UFC,” Soares said. “I think that would be awesome.”
Of course GSP has to come back from his self-imposed hiatus and Anderson Silva has to heal well enough to fight again.
This could just be two managers trying to keep their fighter’s name in the press by throwing out some wild speculation. However, if this fight could ever be made, even at this late stage of both fighters’ careers, it would be one of the biggest fights in MMA history.
I’m sure there would be millions of MMA fans who would tune into that fight just to say they witnessed UFC history. This fight will probably not happen but it is something worth dreaming about and striving for.
Both Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre are Hall Of Fame fighters and will go down as some of the best mixed marshal artists of all time. It would be a real treat to see these two warriors square off against each other just one time.
