Dana White was on ESPN’s sportcenter today, he announced that UFC Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has pulled out of UFC 169 against Renan Barao.

He was training for the fight and had a groin tear that has made him pull out of the fight. Cruz has not fought since October 2011 against Demetrious Johnson.He defeated Johnson via Unanimous decision.

UFC Prez described it as a ”grade 2 or 3″ groin tear. Cruz has been sidelined with torn ACL and other injuries. Urijah Faber will take his place and fight Renan Barao at the event. Faber has been on a four fight win streak and fought four times in 2014.

Faber and Barao have fought before, Barao dominated their fight back at UFC 149. Barao won the fight via unanimous decision.

It should be noted that Faber is  0-5 in championship bouts since November 2008 and has a total record of 30-6.

The event goes down February 1, 2014 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
