Al Iaquinta faces Ryan Couture at UFC 164 after Quin Mulhern injures hand

Things did not go Quinn Mulhern’s (18-3) way when he stepped into the octagon for the very first time against Rick Story at UFC 158: St-Pirre vs. Diaz. Mulhern was quickly disposed of when UFC welterweight veteran Rick Story finished him by TKO. Things are not getting any better for Mulhern as he posted a picture of an injured hand to his future opponent, Ryan Couture (6-2) via Twitter. Mulhern was out of the fight in which he would have made his lightweight debut and a spot opened up for another fighter. Couture lost in his UFC debut, when he was stopped by Ross Pearson. Couture looked solid in that fight, until things went south in the second round and he lost via TKO. Stepping in to fight Couture is Al Iaquinta. Al Iaquinta has not stepped into the octagon since his lost on “The Ultimate Fighter: LIVE” Finale: Ellenberger vs. Kampmann to Michael Chiesa. Iaquinta was supposed to fight TUF: LIVE teammate Joe Proctor at UFC 159, but injury knocked Proctor out of the fight and it was eventually scratched off the card for good when Iaquinta also became injured. Both Couture and Iaquinta will have the opportunity to earn their first UFC win on August 31st at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis II.
