This afternoon at 1 PM eastern time, the UFC will be hosting the UFC 154 press conference from Montreal with headliners Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Condit, among others. I will be live-blogging the event starting at 1, and you will be able to continuously check back here for my reactions to the words that are spoken as they are spoken.
1:56 – Back to Anik giving a softball finale to each, asking for “final thoughts.” Instantly, Condit starts sucking up to GSP but being confident. We are done here, hopefully Nate Diaz and BJ will provide more entertainment at the UFC on Fox presser.
1:54 – Finally a fan question. Nervous guy in the way back asks about how much they miss Greg Jackson. Condit says Greg = 3 guys on his team now. GSP agrees.
1:51 – GSP’s goal in the fight is to shake Condit’s hand at the end and think he did the best he could. This is getting brutal. Call for some fan questions!
1:46 – Condit compares a fighter getting flash knocked out to a soldier preparing for war who goes out and gets shot. Interesting choice of words.
1:41 – GSP comparing his fights to golf. At least we can’t knock him for being honest. Translator fail, noted that the reporter asked GSP about his last fight against “Cruzcan.”
1:38 – Condit trolling a bit saying that his experience with fighting at home added a lot of new pressure not to let family and friends down. Well done, Carlos.
1:34 – Reporters trying so hard to get a storyline with this fight. Asked Carlos how it’s like to fight an idol. Someone tell him this isn’t Rory McDonald, there has been no indication that Condit idolizes GSP.
1:30 – No issue with the translation unfortunately. I wish Karpman was here. GSP admits to having had some personal issues. And then he dodges Anderson Silva question and chews out reporter (gently) for asking it.
1:29 – First French question. Come on translation issue!
1:27 – GSP going with a little longer hair than usual. Looks like he used a #1 razor clip instead of the usual #0. Not sure how this will factor in Saturday night.
1:22 – Anik tells reporters to grab the microphone when “probing” the fighters. Hey, I will take any kind of humor I can get in this snooze-fest.
1:21 – We knew about GSP from the past, but I have to admit that Condit really wears a suit well.
1:19 – Sucking up to each other. Boring. This would have been so much more fun with Nick Diaz.
1:17 – Mandatory GSP promise to look for the finish.
1:14 – With Anik sending soft balls to both fighters, this portion of the press conference is about as risky (and interesting) as GSP’s game plan against Dan Hardy.
1:14 – Condit says his chances today are a lot better than they would have been a year ago. Makes sense, seeing that GSP hasn’t fought in that year due to his failed leg.
1:12 – GSP: “I always have doubt, I am always scared” but then states he’s confident. Weird Anik-run interview going on. Not like the normal press conference.
1:11 – GSP also out in tie-less attire. No Kampman or Hendricks. Why bother make it seem like this is more than a one-fight card?
1:10 – Condit looking good in Buffer-esque Black on Black suit combo. Got some great generic entrance music like you find on the UFC DVDs.
1:07 – Jon Anik hosting. He can hardly see over the podium. Because he’s short.
1:06 – Adventures in translating: “Karpman is at the top of his shape.”
1:05 – Press conference starting now. Some Canadian commentator speaking in French now with translator going through the card.
