UFC 149: Lombard disappoints as Boetsch takes split decision

It was a long awaited UFC debut for former Bellator champion, Hector Lombard but the time came and went with no fans impressed by the performance of the much hyped fighter. In a boring fight, Tim ‘The Barbarian’ Boetsch snatched a split decision on the judges scorecards 29-28, 29-28, 28-29).

Lombard came forward early, while Boetsch looked to keep his space but it was the former Bellator fighter, Lombard who scored an early takedown but Boetsch brought the fight back to his feet . Lombard paced himself early landing some good shots, and was able to scuff the takedown attempts when Boetsch came forward.

Lombard sat back in the opening half of round 2, not wanting to commit into any flurries like we are used to seeing the former Bellator champion do. A kick to the body late in round 2 had Boetsch hurt and Lombard moved in and went for the takedown but Boetsch was too strong, returning to his feet where both fighters closed out the round.

Again both fighters started slowly in the final frame with Lombard creeping forward on Boetsch.  ‘The Barbarian’ got the better of the exchanges in the final round with the fighters clinching for position when the bell rang.

Lombard’s loss was his first since November 2006 while Boetsch is now 4-0 at 185lbs.
