In a fight which could possibly decide the next challenger to UFC Middleweight champion-Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman left nothing in the locker rooms knocking out Mark Munoz with a nasty right elbow at 1:37 of round 2.
“I’ve been playing around with my elbows, and I got a long reach for it,” said Weidman. “I tried to follow Jon Jones’ blueprint.”
Weidman scored a takedown from the start and went straight to work for the giuillotine choke. He softened up Munoz with ground and pound before going for the kimura. Munoz was able to scramble to his knees, but Weidman went back for the guillotine attempt but ran out of time.
Weidman again looked to bring the fight to the mat early in the second frame but Munoz scrambled but was hit by a huge elbow and was knocked down before being finished off with ground strikes by Weidman
Following the win, the undefeated Weidman called out UFC Middleweight champion-Anderson Silva who defeated Chael Sonnen earlier in the week at UFC 148.
“I want Anderson Silva, everytime I’ve had a full training camp Ive got a stoppage, so give me Silva.”
Munoz was classy in defeat and assured the Californian fans that he will be back.
“He caught me with the elbow coming in, and it happens sometimes. But I’ll be back.”
